Beans, beautiful beans

We’re back! First up, an announcement. We’ve released our first ebook, a little cookbook to help you get your 2018 started off right. It’s called Resolution Recipes and you can pick up your very own copy right here. Thank you for helping to support what we do!

In what’s for dinner we talk about traditional New Year’s Day foods–dishes that set you up for good luck in the new year.

Joy and Marisa had something of an informal bean soup swap and they talk about how to get our of your own winter soup making rut.

As Top Chef fans, don’t you always wonder what you would do if faced with the chef-testant’s challenges? We do! We talk about a recent thought provoking contest on the show about culinary heritage.

And finally, in What We’re Loving, we talk about prefab gnocchi.

  1. Totally on board with the pre-made gnocchi! In Pittsburgh, we have a fresh pasta purveyor (CityFresh pasta, http://cityfreshpastapgh.com/), and I’m able to order their fresh made, frozen gnocchi through a local farmer’s market co-op website (Penn’s Corner). I saw a recipe for a sheet pan dinner using pre-made or frozen gnocchi and veggies on the Kitchn; all you have to do is toss the gnocchi and some peppers, onions, garlic and tomatoes together in olive oil and roast in a 450 degree oven. Thought it was a great quick idea for weeknights (also threw some pesto in there at the end): https://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-crispy-sheet-pan-gnocchi-and-veggies-247360

Also purchased your Resolution Recipes and excited to get to trying those!

    1. Sheet pan gnocchi??? Sounds amazing. I will have to give that a try. And thank you so much for picking up our ebook. I really hope you like and we really appreciate the support you’ve shown our podcast. Thank you!

  2. Speaking of gnocchi, you should try roasting it with a little bit of olive oil for about 12 minutes in 425! They are delicious!!!

  3. Would you believe that I made the Hoppin’ John recipe from the Joy of Cooking for New Years Day?! Although, this was full a full on ham and bacon version. We ate the leftovers a few times for breakfast with an extra heap of braised kale and a poached egg on top. It was so delicious I was planning on making it again for the potluck!

    1. Haha. I made one of those last year–very very porky. If you do make it for the potluck I will definitely have a taste 🙂
